Spring 2024 Update

Posted by Head Coach at Apr 1, 2024 4:26PM PDT

Hello Parents,

I hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend. We are looking forward to the season ahead and we hope you are too! Until we get our field times and locations, we’ll be holding practices in school gyms, BMO indoor centre, and at Western University fields. The calendar will be updated soon with times and locations for the month of April and into early May. A few other notes:

  • The Oakridge Flames would like to enthusiastically thank our 2024 sponsors for their generous support: Leo Millon (LifeLike BioTissue) and John Smallwood (360 Health Group).
  • Once we have more information to share about the season ahead, we will be holding a parent meeting. We encourage all parents to attend this informal, yet important meeting.
  • For each of the upcoming sessions, please have your players bring appropriate footwear (running shoes or indoor soccer shoes for indoor sessions at school gyms and BMO, cleats for outdoor), a soccer ball, and a water bottle. Be ready to go 10 minutes ahead of time – we need to make the most of our allotted time.
  • Please mark your attendance in the TeamsPages app. We have 29(!) girls and the coaches need to plan the practice/activity sessions accordingly.

Questions? Please email us at oakridge2012girls@gmail.com.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing everyone soon.

Your coaches,
Jessie, Steph, Ricky, & Chris

Winter Wrap-up and Welcome to our Newcomers

Posted by Head Coach at Mar 17, 2024 4:04PM PDT

Hello parents,

Aside from one last fitness session this upcoming week, that is a wrap for the Winter season. Thanks to all of you for getting your girls to our activities over the past few months.

I would also like to welcome our newcomers to the Oakridge Flames! Our new players’ families have been added to these emails (and if you’re in touch with one another and anyone hasn’t received a message, please have them reach out to oakridge2012girls@gmail.com and we’ll get them sorted out). Please also download the TeamsPages app to your mobile device – we use this platform regularly to send updates and attendance.

I’ll keep this short for now as there will be more information to share in the coming weeks. We will be taking the next 3 weeks off, but please plan to attend practices on Saturday, April 6 and Saturday April 13 at 1:30pm at Byron Summerset Public School. Be sure to come with your gear (shoes, shin pads, ball, water), and a great attitude.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing everyone soon.

Your coaches,
Steph, Jessie, Ricky, & Chris

Bring both jerseys

Posted by Head Coach at Mar 16, 2024 5:01PM PDT

Good evening,

This is a reminder to have your players bring both red and black jerseys for tomorrow’s game – just in case we end up short on either side.

Thank you and see you in the morning!

Now in its 50th year, the Oakridge Soccer Club has provided thousands of players an opportunity to play soccer year-round in a safe, positive, and forward thinking environment. As a community based, not for profit, volunteer-managed club, our impact is far more reaching than just getting on the field weekly. We regularly bring hundreds of people together to spend time outdoors, enjoying youth competition, and more importantly, build friendships that last long past the final whistle at the end of 90 minutes (or 80, or 70, or even 50 minutes for that matter).

Members of the Executive Board are volunteers who come from all walks of life: Finance, Sales, Project Management, IT, Engineering, Human Resources, etc with a common goal of creating opportunities for kids & adults of all ages to play the sport they love, regardless of the season. The Oakridge Soccer Club is an established and very well respected member of the greater London soccer community not only with the governing body of the district association EMSA, but the various leagues, suppliers, and other competitive associations. As one of the last standing community based clubs, we have collectively pushed forward to offer an affordable experience for multi-sport athletes or for those who just wanted to play closer to home and with school friends.

That all being said, there is an immediate need for new people with fresh/new perspectives to take leadership roles on the Executive Board. We are in need of volunteers to support the roles of President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Grassroots, Equipment, Field Management etc.. We have established processes/structure in place, most are repetitive season to season. Time commitment? Can vary by role, with monthly executive meetings to recap or plan forward.

If you are interested in learning more about opportunities to join the Executive Board of the Oakridge Soccer Club, please contact president@oakridgesoccerclub.ca.

Thank you.
